ABOUT OUR HERD
The Pasture North Dakota is a little family farm on the border of North Dakota and Minnesota, between Grand Forks and Fargo. We are home to a growing herd of 100% purebred registered Myotonic (Fainting) Goats. All of our Myotonic Goats are registered through the Myotonic Goat Registry (MGR). Our herd is tested annually for Johne's, CAE, and CL. We only sell our goats to those looking for pets, 4H/show, or breeding stock.
about MYOTONIC (fainting) goats
Also known as fainting goats, wooden-leg goats, scare goats, and nervous goats, myotonic goats are a domestic goat that appears to faint when it becomes panicked. Although it doesn’t actually faint, due to myotonia congenita, the goat's muscles freeze up. When goats “faint” they do not lose consciousness but remain aware of what is going on while they are in a frozen state. Most younger goats, when startled, will stiffen and fall over, while older goats have learned to spread their legs for stability or lean against something when startled.
Myotonic goats are slightly smaller than standard breeds of goat, usually measuring 17 to 25 inches tall and weighing between 60 and 150 pounds. They have large, prominent eyes that are in high sockets. Fainting goats can have short or long hair and can vary widely in coloring.
Myotonic goats are a docile breed and considered easier to care for and maintain than other goats. They are good foragers and do not test fences as much as other breeds. Although categorized as a meat goat, myotonic goats can also be raised as pets and for showing purposes.
A little known fact: Myotonic goats are a heritage breed that the Livestock Conservancy considers "recovering" but were once listed as "endangered".

purchase information
Our Myotonic Fainting Goat kids are available for purchase as pets and/or for breeding, showing, and 4H purposes. We do not sell our Myotonic Fainting Goats for meat. Goats need companionship from another compatible goat (ex. does with does or wethers, bucks with bucks or wethers). Kids will not be sold individually unless the buyer already has an appropriate goat companion.
Pricing: Our 2025 kids will start at $450+ for doelings, $400+ for bucklings, and $250+ for wethers. All prices are determined for each kid individually after birth and will be communicated to those on our waiting list.
Waiting List: If you are interested in our kids, please email us with what you are looking for in order to be added to our waiting list. No deposit is needed to get on the list. Shortly after kidding season, information on the kids will be sent to our waiting list. Waitlist clients will have priority choice on a first come basis. Once a buyer selects a kid, a 50% non-refundable deposit will need to be paid within 7 days of the decision to purchase.
Disbudding: At this time, we do not disbud our horned kids.
Wethers: Bucklings can be wethered; however, we require the kid to be 100% paid for prior to banding. Banding will take place between 10-12 weeks of age.
Vaccinations: Kids are given a CDT vaccination and booster prior to pickup. We administer preventative coccidiosis treatments on our kids.
Pick-Up/Delivery: Kids will be available when they are weaned, generally between 8-12 weeks of age. We ask customers to pre-schedule pick up of their kids at The Pasture. Buyers will forfeit their deposit, and we will re-assume full ownership if the kid(s) are not picked up on or before 14 weeks of age. Delivery in North Dakota may be available for an additional fee, depending on location and schedule. Please let us know at the time of deposit if this is requested.
Registration: All kids are 100% purebred and may be able to be registered with the Myotonic Goat Registry. We will provide the buyer with a signed registration form. It is the responsibility of the buyer to register the goat with MGR, unless prior arrangements have been requested.
Guarantee: We guarantee our goats' health up to 48 hours after leaving The Pasture.
Refunds: The deposit will be refunded only if something happens to the goat in question prior to pick-up. Additionally, we reserve the right to cancel a sale at any time, for any reason. If that happens, the deposit will be returned.
